Introducing our newest Environmental Partners...More Trees by THG Eco


According to the International Energy Agency, the construction industry is responsible for nearly 39% of all carbon emissions globally, therefore it is important to us at Alderley Group that we work to reverse the impacts of our industry, following our value of creating positive change.


We will be working with More Trees to plant a tree for every home we complete, which with our current portfolio would stand at 204 trees - this equates to 61.2 tonnes of CO2 being sequestered throughout our tree’s growth life.





Madagascar Project


Alderley Group will be specifically working to support the Madagascar project, which covers the areas of: Antsaniti, Ahalamboro, Vilamatsa and Mangaro/Besley, helping to improve in-land deforestation across the north of Madagascar.


The Benefits


More Trees works with their Tree Planting Partner, Eden Reforestation Project to plant thousands of trees across the region, reversing the impacts of climate change. They work with local communities and their trusted partners to plant the trees, which in turn reduces extreme poverty in the areas, providing jobs and generating income streams for the country.

While the planting of the trees creates immeasurable social benefits, this also has positive impacts on the environment. Alderley Group are committed to increasing positive environmental changes and planting a tree for every home we build is the start of doing so.


Air


Trees act as natural air filters, trapping airborne pollutants such as particulate matter, nitrogen oxides, sulphur dioxide, and ozone. Their leaves, bark, and branches capture these pollutants, thereby improving air quality and reducing respiratory health issues in human populations.


Water


The proliferation of trees in the area plays a pivotal role in enhancing water quality by acting as natural filters, meticulously sieving impurities and contaminants from the water, while also exerting a significant influence on rainfall patterns, effectively modulating precipitation levels and contributing to the maintenance of ecological balance. This also helps to reduce risks of flooding, which is common in coastal areas.





Soil


Tree planting significantly improves soil quality through various mechanisms such as erosion control, nutrient cycling, organic matter accumulation, soil moisture regulation, enhanced microbial activity, and remediation of contaminated soils. Trees stabilise soil, prevent erosion, and promote soil fertility by redistributing nutrients through leaf litter and root turnover. They also regulate soil moisture levels, support beneficial soil microorganisms, and can detoxify contaminated soils through processes like phytoremediation.


Biodiversity


Tree planting is a key strategy for enhancing biodiversity, fostering diverse ecosystems, and promoting the conservation of plant and animal species. Trees provide habitat and food sources for a wide range of organisms, including insects, birds, mammals, and fungi. They create complex microhabitats within their branches, trunks, and root systems, supporting diverse communities of plants and animals. By increasing the number and variety of trees, we can help restore and expand habitats for native species, conserve biodiversity hotspots, and improve ecosystem resilience to environmental stressors such as habitat loss and climate change. Additionally, trees contribute to genetic diversity by facilitating the exchange of genetic material among populations, thereby enhancing the adaptive capacity of species to respond to changing environmental conditions.
